Purse Nets

Post: # 389Post scarecrow »

I have a dozen decent quality purse nets. I friend of mine was supposed to show me the ropes of rabbiting but we never got round to it and I no longer have the ferrets.

Unless I can find some other use for them, I'd be willing to consider any offers.

Don't want to sound too ignorant but what exactly is a purse net?

sorry, I just assumed people would know.

A purse net is a sort of sock shaped net. It is designed to be anchored around the entrances to a rabbit warren and has a drawstring action.

The idea is that the rabbits are forced from the warren (by a ferret, small terrier etc) and into the net. As it runs into the net, it pulls the drawstring thereby trapping the rabbit.

It is then dispatched by the hunter.

Does this make any sense?

i used to go bunny bashing with ferrets when i was a kid. We used long nets as well, but were less successful. They could be re-used for growing melons in, hanging up pumpkins, storing shallots etc...
