Laptop problems
Damn! My laptop was making strange noises recently, and now it tells me the cooling fan isn't working properly and I shouldn't be using it at all. (Don't worry, I'll shut down in a minute, before it gets a chance to get hot!) So - any ideas? Do I need an engineer to solve it, or is it relatively easy to repair?

Take the back off (carefully) and check the fan and cooling fins Ina, they get clogged with dust and cease to cool the processor.
I have to do mine with rather embarrassing frequency, maybe because our duster went missing some years ago.

Re: Laptop problems
Yeah, mine's getting noisy again, too. I think I may need to take it to bits and pick the cat hair out of the fan, again. I can't remember exactly how I did it last time, but apart from being careful in case of accidentally pulling on delicate wires, I don't remember it being too difficult.

Take nobody's word for it, especially not mine! If I offer you an ID of something based on a photo, please treat it as a guess, and a starting point for further investigations.

Thank you for your encouragement and advice... The screwdriver it is, then.
Yeah, dust is a major problem in this house - no idea where it comes from, really, although I'm sure the cat contributes to it...

Re: Laptop problems
it doesn't look easy to take a laptop apart...
Re: Laptop problems
Go to youtube & in the search box put… how to remove cover on xxxx laptop …. And someone will have posted a video showing how. Take notes on the screws to remove & just as importantly those not too if you can’t use another computer whilst doing the job…. This also works for almost ‘anything’ you can think of.

Re: Laptop problems
I didn't actually have to take it all apart in the end - just took a cover off, and now I try and keep the dust away from it where possible...
