Re: Skills you're most proud of
I have a plethora of obscure skills—from dunny building to blowing up tree stumps to knitting socks to salting pork to bow making to celestial navigation and much more—but I'm most proud of my first aid skills. Advanced first aid skills mean I've been able to make a real difference on quite a few occasions. And that's what matters: being able to make a difference.

most proud of... hmmm
managing a tight budget
cooking
making a decent meal out of what is available
play folky music on my recorder
interact with strangers (given that i am not the most social of people generally)
raise, kill and prep my own meat
craft things - mostly to do with fibre - knit, crochet, felt, spin, dye (still lots to learn though)

Re: Skills you're most proud of
What a lovely thread! And what a very talented bunch of people there are in Ish-land...
Things I can do and am proud of:
stand up in folk clubs across the land and sing, unaccompanied, without people running away
paint pictures well enough to sell some (not many, but it's a start, eh?)
knit and crochet beautiful items for myself and loved ones
cook delicious meals
make tofu
make jams, marmalades, pickles and chutneys
bake
paint a room
hang wallpaper
navigate
drive (learnt when I was in my late 30s, so am quite proud of that one)
speak basic French
turn a manuscript into a book (ie edit/typeset it)
spell (kind of linked to the above)
remember lyrics/tunes/speeches without trying
Things I'd like to do better:
play more than three tunes on my hammered dulcimer (can't believe there's someone else on here who can play one! Also in France...)
make coffee
Things I'm useless at:
anything which involves a sense of balance - so I can't ride a bike, can't roller skate and can't ice skate. I've never tried skiing, as I'm pretty sure I'd be carp at that too...

Hmm, great post! I think I'm most proud of my cross stitch, sewing and birthday cake decorating! There are so many skills I'd love to improve though - foreign languages, painting, baking bread and photography. Does anyone else cross stitch?

Me too, and I've got tons of aida and silks waiting to be used. Maybe this year.
And welcome from me as well, Elise.

Re: Skills you're most proud of
I'm with you Mmm - correct use of the english language (case deliberate) is a skill that is rapidly fading. Essentially it is not taught these days and over reliance on spell and grammar checkers (mostly written by barely pubescent software developers with English as a second language) is leading to a semi-literate generation. It is only recently that the Microsoft Word programme has allowed to correct use of the apostrophe.

Re: Skills you're most proud of
It's not necessary to have English as a second language - in my experience over the last decades it was often me, a "second languager", who had to correct first language colleagues' spelling... Otherwise I fully agree. But I can still be bothered to look things up if they don't seem right. (That goes for my first language, too. There've been developments since I left my country, and I'm often not sure how it's done these days.)
