Allotment competitions
Anyoen ever won a competition on their allotment? We are thinking of entering for best newcommer on ours this year. Should be a bit of fun.
First we sow the seeds, nature grows the seeds then we eat the seeds. Neil Pye

I remember persuading my father to take part in the local allotment show 20 years ago. Think he won for dahlias and I won for potted flowering plant (a cactus probably Mammillaria spinossima or something like that). We grew pumpkins for it, but came no where near the biggest. After the show, a lot of the produce was sold - 10p for a marrow! We bought one and it didn't fit in the oven. I wanted to grow something the following year for the ugliest vegetable category!
On another allotment messageboard, we had an allotment competition - well, pictures of our lovely produce. Everything looked amazing!

My allotment site is very small and has lots of organic/make-it-up-as-you-go-along types, so I'm thinking of arranging a competition next year with categories like "Longest Whole Piece of Bindweed", "Fattest Dandelion Root", "Strangest object Found in the Soil" and "Worst Injury Sustained in a Horticultural Context".
Anyone want to enter online?

It was meant to be a courgette, but we went off on holiday

and a 3rd for my Barlotto French Beans
(My first year and so I think it was a bit of encouragement, and there weren't all that many entries

There's only one thing wrong with school.
It gets in the way of children's education ;-)
