A perfect cup of tea

I was just looking up some stuff on George Orwell and I found this all about how to make the perfect cup of tea.

I am taking his advice of trying it without sugar for a fortnight and will see if I do start to like it that way.

All this about warming the pot, I am never sure that it makes that much difference. Although I do think that despite the hastle leaves are better than bags. Milk last always too.

warming the pot for tea is like putting potatoes into a hot tin to roast I think - works perfectly well the other way but takes longer to get ready and isn't quite as nice... the quality of the water probably makes more difference to the taste though (not a problem Orwell had I doubt, they didn't over-chlorinate the water in the '40's did they?)

Hi Andy, thats how I gave up sugar in my tea. At first I missed the sugar but now I couldn't stand even a little bit. That's how I got used to soya milk instead of dairy as well. barb

Yeah, you can get used to anything. Or as I say to people who complain about the taste of medicines I recommend, "if people can learn to like martini, you can learn to like this".

Whilst I think of it, a nice link for you on a related topic. Take a look around the site, it's really something for the little englanders like me. Start with the mission statement!

i find that milk spoils the taste of my tea...in fact i hated tea till i tried it without milk

I stopped taking sugar when I was about 12 and went to stay with a friend's family for a week. none of them took sugar and I was too embarassed to ask!
