It depends where the island in the Med it is... it is extremely difficult to grow anything on Corsica, for example. In fact, it is hard to get grass to grow to a decent length for hay, thus useless if you plan to keep livestock.the.fee.fairy wrote:I voted for med - look at all the wonderful veg you can grow there!

Well, if Wee Cumbrae was popular we could all live in the big house (and play with the canons, declare independance that sort of thing- but I'll not have any of you wasting tea!) while we erect a few of these http://www.simplyselfbuild.co.uk/house_ ... arter_home, I'm sure it'd be windy enough for a few of Martin's turbines for our power. I'll do the lottery next week-I'm starting to get seriously fixated on this idyll!

I can see it now. The TV documentary team negotiating their way past Martin's Viking longship powered by all manner of wheezing, grinding, clanking, hissing, whirring alternative power sources and manned by the bearded Ishers.
Then they find their way blocked by a keep flying the Glenniedragon flag and assorted nutters played cannoneer while wearing assorted saucepans, hubcaps and dustbin lids.
When the team staggers ashore they are overrun by a horde of puppies, piglets, cats, goats, pet sheep and stray children.
Then, they stagger their way up the steep paths to the clifftop where they discover a veritable forest of homebuilt wind turbines, amidst which they catch glimpses of muttering, tinkering figures.
Finally, they find the path to the main house where they find a few of the more sedate Ishers sitting at a table on the green, amid rampant gardens, and sipping tea.
"Oh, hello! Would you like a cup of tea? It's one teabag between three because Glenniedragon says not to waste any... or else!"

It does sound perfect - I'd love to live there. As for my skills... I can cook well, but fail with bread (please teach me how to do it properly, FeeFairy!), fairly good at DIY and gardening, good at IT stuff (not sure how useful that would be) and I'd act as the island peacekeeper. My OH is fairly practical, good at IT, is a glider pilot and hang-glider (probably not that useful, unless we need to get off the island and the boat is knackered) and he worked for the EA for 17 years so knows a lot about water and chemistry. I think that we'd both learn more than we could teach, but we learn quickly!

Marooned on a island with nothing but a load of tarts. Could be worse...the.fee.fairy wrote:Stonehead, that sounds idyllic!!

Tay: Get in a mood and really pound the bread when you knead it...realy give it a good beating. This gets more air in and helps it rise.
I want to live on Ish island! (Can we rename it?).
The postal addresses would be interesting:
