Caravans can be an brilliant option for a single person, especially if positioned on a bit of land that gives you the extra space. I think they are a pretty cool way to exist, and they usually have (or can have) everything one person needs. Add another person though, and they suddenly seem a whole lot smaller...
I agree with the generator idea, at least until solar or wind becomes manageable. All caravans should be alternatively powered, I reckon. They are ideal for it, being compact on just about every level, (as in everything is shrunken... lil wee fridge... teeny stove top...small area to light...itty bitty hot water system)
I do remember going through a wet season in a van though...

Very different when it is constantly wet and the big outdoors is 'off bounds'. That's when you suddenly know exactly how many paces it is from one end to the other!
