setting up recycling bins, what to seperate/how many bins ??

want to set up some re-cycling bins in my shed (large concrete shed so plenty of room).
how many bins would you suggest and what would you put in each ???
very new to larger scale recycling any info is greatfully received.
I want to recycle as much as I can and reduce my family's waste.

We tend to find paper, cardboard, glass, tins and plastics is what we separate, then when we go to the recycling centre everything is ready to be carried to the appropriate skip/bank.

thanks - I don't suppose there is a list anywhere of things that require specialist recycling or that can't be recycled ???

I have paper, glass and cans and then another for packaging like cereal boxes and yoghurt pots that I take into my daughters old nursery. we also have a brown wheelie bin for garden waste and brown cardboard but don't use that much as most of that goes into my compost bins

I've noticed that each local authority seems to accept different things for recycling - perhaps it's best to contact the section that deals with waste & recycling in your area?

You can log onto www.recyclenow.com and they have a postcode finder which will tell you what your local authority offers in the way of recycling.

I have cardboard, paper, plastic bottles, tins and cans, and glass.

wow thanks just took a look and there's a recycling centre less than 2 miles away that seem to take almost anything - thanks for the website PD

Here we have plastic bags that come from our regional district, they have what you can and can't put out stamped right on them. And we picked up a list fronm the District office of what we can and can't recycle.

I just hang carrier bags on an old coat rack. You can just add another carrier bag for each different item then. When a bag get's full, I take it to the recycling (we don't get curbside recycling here grrrr - but at least I can walk and it gives me some exercies).
