Cheap wine start up

Post: # 9286Post glenniedragon »

I've begged and borrowed a couple of those really large squash bottles (our local supermarket does 5l ones) and they are perfect, and you're recycling too! I drilled a hole large enough to put an air lock in snugly made sure everything was sterilized, and there you have it! I didn't but any tubing for ages either, I just racked the wine off into the other bottle as carefully as possible. Also as they are plastic there are no flying glass injuries like those of someone I know who made an explosive ginger beer!

Kind thoughts
Deb

For home made wine you need to use a good wine yeast forget all the wild stuff keep everything clean ferment in a bucket (food grade) initialy then into a sterilised demi jon with an air lock to keep the bacteria out most problems are caused by lack of acid and or dirty equipment/yeast
we just borrow the earth leave it better than you found it
