Do you suppose it would be possible to grow tomatoes out of holes in the bottom of window boxes? I'm thinking of ways to maximize space in the glasshouse, and to get out of staking all together. I wouldn't try it with the giant sandwich tomatoes (Parks Whopper and the like) but I would think smallish indeterminates might work. What do you think? Do you see any immediate problems with the idea?

tomato idea-perhaps a silly one?
Haven't tried it myself, but sounds like some basic research that is worth doing!

I imagine that they'd grow happily hanging down rather than stretching up, given enough light, etc.
However, you might find you still need to do some staking (or at least tying off onto some kind of trellis) for support, both to stop branches breaking and to prevent the plant dragging its roots out of the container under its own weight!
