Yesterday, scraped up last of manure to prepare beds previously occupied by blighted toms for new inhabitants come spring - picked out ridiculous quantity of stones - got smoked by next door's bonfire.
It's been a rough old year - only a couple of winter squashes have survived the weather and started harvesting ripe toms from the greenhouse a couple of weeks ago - now in profusion, of course. Lots of green tomato chutney again, then. Kale and broccoli look well. Brussels sprouts are confusing. Am I supposed to remove the leaves?

Lying down.
The manure turned up with no notice and needed to be cleared off the carriageway ASAP.
Thirty barrow loads in the two hours before it got dark, and a hundred metres down the hill onto a pile that really wasn't ready.

Oh the pain! :?

I'm impressed! That's a significant amount of exercise for a couple of hours and I hope you treated yourself to a suitable amount of liquid refreshment to mask the pain :drunken:

I finally managed to transplant some strawberry runners before the cold weather sets in! It feels so good to get in there and do something worthwhile in the veg patch again.

Stumbled around :drunken: on Sunday morning for a few hours, due to over excitement (and cider) the previous Saturday night watching the rugby.
It's not easy being Cheezy
So you know how great Salsify is as a veg, what about Cavero Nero, great leaves all through the winter , then in Spring sprouting broccolli like flowers! Takes up half as much room as broccolli

Have just started last weekend, removed bind weed and more bind weed.
Then some more bind weed.

Dug about 1/5 of the plot and marked out some paths. Put a few onions in, thought I would plant as I go up the plot. More to plant out next weekend.

Also we have lots of fruit trees which have not seen a haircut in a couple of years so sorted them. Left the 3 Cherries for the spring time.

Why would someone plant 7 apple trees some only 3ft apart. 2 have now been donated to the nice lady on the plot next door. I hope one turns out to be a pear or plum. I know I gave apples away because when I viewed the plot a couple of months back they had fruit on them.

Raspberries will need to go in over next couple of weeks so building the frames and digging in some manure this weekend. Will put some on the rest of the area already dug and leave to do its stuff before the spring.

Hard work but very pleased so far!!

Down at the allotment or in the garden, what are you up to?

Drew up next years garden plan, still digging potatoes and we need to empty some out of tires and the compost.

Harvested all the squash and have been feeding overgrown greens to the chickens.

We've planned two new garden beds and how to fence around them.

If its not raining tomorrow we may get the compost turned, though it will be heavy from the rain today.

 Lois

Nearly finished digging new beds in the front garden, just got to move a little walnut tree to make room for the last bed. Planted ~ 150 broad beans a few weeks ago and they are beginning to turn into nice little plants - should be a slightly better harvest compared to the five I grew last year :)

Weekends here again, planting Garlic tomorrow and then moving rubbish for tip to corner of plot. If dry and still would like to have bonfire with a big stick to lean on!!! (Its a man thing).

Sunday, I have a trailer and will get a few loads from a friends stables to spread over plot so the worms can spend the next few months pulling into the soil.

When trailer is empty trip to the tip before returning home for a shower and then rather large roast diner.

Sounds like the perfect weekend!
