Carry on guys! I can't think of anything much I've bought this year apart from 2 very cheap T-shirts in the supermarket, although I'm going to a garden centre tomorrow to get some buckets of fatballs for the birds, espcially as I have a €5 voucher from my fidelity points. Do fatballs count as 'something new' or a necessity? I know what my blue tits would say!:lol:

Food is essential and has to be bought new... whether for birds or for humans!

But I bought three new (and one used) books yesterday. Oh dear.

I bought some books for home ed.. for my son.. but I don't think i can count these.. they are essential.

did buy some wool, to go with some wool I already had to make a jumper for my son. but childrens clothes might be essential too as they do grow!

I would say yes. I think this should only be about "proper" possessions, i.e. stuff that stays with you for a while.

It's not about spending as little money as possible, but about creating less waste - as everything you don't eat or drink will end up as waste sooner or later!

OK, I just thought - loo paper? It's essential, but it still ends up as waste... I think we'll have to make an exception here!

sorry but I regard loo paper as essential.. mybe old fashioned of me...

if i am really allowed off a meal out.. then so far... apart from essentials (food, childrens clothing, educational materials, animal feed, vet bill,)

the only thing I have bought is a new wall. as it was holding up the joists.. that wwas essential too... so ... nothing so far.

Mmmm, if you didn't want to get rid of loo paper but wanted to be a bit more frugal, you could always make sure you use both sides..... !

I've seen this type of thread quite a few times and must admit, that I think it is a great idea, just not sure I could do it! It is Amazon books for me - but I tend to only purchase educational ones with an "ish" theme to them.

Even so, think what I might do is keep a note of what I do buy that is non-essential and review it. I might shock myself. I started keeping anote of my electricity consumption and was so shocked, started taking measures to reduce the consumption. Reduced it by about 25% already.
