Want to dig a small wildlife pond for the kids, but averse to spending money on liner. Anyone have any spare for a, say 1.5 x 1m pond ?

You could try going to a local farmer, to see if the have any pieces of old silage sheeting, it's quite tough stuff and a couple of layers should last a few years.

damp proof coursing is cheap and somebody might have scrap or leftovers.
