Ainslie, ball pens were invented by Biro and the first pic shows piglet laying next to one to show how tiny he is!

I was just about to tell Ainslie what a biro was! I always assumed Biro was an American term we'd adopted, but according to Wiki, Mr Biro was Hungarian!

So what do Americans and Canadians call a biro then? :?

P.S. Little piggy is very cute!

"So what do Americans and Canadians call a biro then? "

I don't know what others call them, but here in Huron county anyway we always used to call them a "BIC" pen because those were the initials on the pen itself.

We call them Bic pens.

In 1950 Marcel Bich bought the patent for the ballpoint pen. However his company is named "Bic". The two names are actually pronounced the same, the H is silent. However, most english speakers would have pronounce "Bich" as the swear word, so the H was dropped from the product name.

I think of razors when I think of Bic! But I do remember Bic pens as well - I think they were yellow.

Whatever he is called, or not, I couldn't eat him...this is why I only keep chickens I think. Once they have become a little friend they become one of the family!

(although I could kill and eat my teenage daughter sometimes...)

Yes, bacon....hmmm, does that mean he has "bacon breath?" I've used that name many a time on my fine swine, usually by the third time they've run past me in the wrong direction!

Sad to say that Biro/Spider Pig did not make it. When we got up this morning his breathing was shallow and laboured. He would not take any milk.

I sat down with my pig book to see what could be wrong and heard him some rustling in the straw and him squealing. I got up thinking he was shouting for his bottle, but alas he could not get breath and died within a few minutes.

I did feel so helpless. As was said earlier in this thread, we always had it in the back of our minds that he might not make it. He looked a nice healthy piglet, but was not putting on much weight. There was clearly a good reason he was so wee at birth and he never managed to get over it. :(

So sorry to hear your news. Sometimes the littlest guys can make it, but with such small body mass it is really tough - they just don't have the resources to fight all the bugs that come along to challenge their immune system and, with a piglet being so small, a bug can take them beyond treatment in mere hours and we are powerless to help. I think you're champs for trying, please don't let this stop you from trying another time!

shame. as you say, it was probably a problem that was already there. Least you tried for him, and glad to hear his death was not prolonged.

Some are just not meant to be :(

I am glad you gave him a comfy bed and some attention for the last few weeks, I am sure he had a happy, if short, life.
