Sad though, some people do fall for it... and loose thousands.

Some one put aa link up for a website that mocks the scammers that do this... it was very funny... I can't remember what it was now though.... anyone???

All the rich orphans whose trust funds can only be accessed if I send them money to help them escape their Country. They'll share their estate with me if I help.

The number of times I've won the lottery, Euromillions, Spanish lottery when I haven't even bought a ticket - all I have to do is give them my name address, dob, bank account details, oh and a paultry few thousand quid to pay for admin.

Then there's the part time jobs cashing cheques for foreign manufacturer's who can't get a uk bank account or clear uk cheques themselves; 10% commission!. All I have to do is provide name adress dob bank.......

All the B&B bookings I've refused - all I had to do was accept their cheque or credit card payment for £5000, take out the cost of their booking and my expenses and transfer the balance to their account so they could pay for hire cars, spending money.

With all these people offering me money for nothing I must like being hard up!

Seriously, it costs them spammers nothing to send these emails out and if only 1 in 1000 respond, they're quids in.

I've spend ages argueing with internet providers that they must be able to detect acounts sending out this stuff and zap them but got nowhere. In the end I've had to pay for email filtering but even that lets several through each day. :blob6:

Actually, that's harder than it seems. Any hacker worth their salt has programs to trick other servers into resending their email, some mailings get bounced around so many times it would take years to trace back to the original sender. Sort of like an email pinball game.

I have 3 different email accounts and use Thunderbird which also has an excellent Spam filter/folder. It was in there that my H4lifax email ended up. Chancers!

I can just see a natwest one on my picture there.... I don't have a natwest account. My paypal emails don't go to this email account so I know if one arrives it's not real, my virus update emails also go to another acount, my bank does have my email address, but I requested that they don't use it so any claiming to be from my bank would be deleted (funnily enough though I never get any).... and I NEVER use a link in an email from an unknown source.

I have a hotmail account but as it's a dot Com rather than a dot co dot uk I get all the scams for American Banks!

One friend of mine is fluent in Portuguese so uses a Dot BR e-mail and knows anything actually in Portuguese is Spam or a Scam.
