took the neighbours old manky carpet and some plastic sheeting up to t'allotment today and covered some of the ground (almost half of it). Poked around in the bit I dug over the other day and almost planted some potatoes, then ds1 announced he wanted to go to the park

Had a bit of a dig in the veg area today and the soil was very workable. Put in some shallots and will put seeds of early veg in tomorrow. PLEASE - do not rain tonight

It's raining ........ and the lady at the end of the road said it would be best to wait until the end of March to plant most things outside. I have bought some compost through so will start a few things off inside and keep nagging OH to make that old frame

Actually complete change of plan - went to buy hedging plants and also managed to order:

2 pear trees
2 cherry trees
a cobnut
a medlar
a walnut
a plum tree

Guess what I'm doing next week

Still no cold frame though

What a shame because I have a walnut tree that has to come out - a couple of years ago it was still small enough that I offered it on Anglo Info (no takers) but now it's sadly too big for transportation! It was planted (not by us) too close to the older walnut tree.

Sadly, the last time I had a globe artichoke I had the JA effect, which kept me up half the night. Now I think I can't eat either anymore, which is really sad as I love the taste.

Strange - never heard that globe artichokes can do that to you, too...

Got our friends in last week and turned over half of one plot (we get to do theirs next week).

Today I planted the first peas (meteor) and trying some early radishes (French Breakfast and a white variety called Icicle).

If the rain stops, back tomorrow for more digging and probably sowing some poached egg plants here and there.

Went down yesterday and planted last of Garlic & Shallots. Also put in early spuds. The weather is supposed to be bad over next few days. Looking forward to going up again next weekend.

I have some bits to start in the garden too. Need to dig out my polly covers for the raised beds we grew in last year. We are going to put herbs and some spinnach in along with the strawberries i put in last year.

Getting excited already about the spring season.

I planted out the first lettuce plants yesterday. I'm not sure how well they are going to do, the ground is still pretty wet.

Bought a few lettuce seedlings to get me going but it is STILL raining so can't get them out yet.

Still nagging OH to get that coldframe made

Got my onions in today - at last! Also the garlic, or rather what was left of it. Most of it had rotted away. My own fault.... I'd had it for months, and left it sitting in the bag it had been sent in.

Put some broad beans in, too; planted the little apple tree in a large wooden box (it's a dwarf Worcester Pearmain, so should do OK in the container). And planted some flowers.

Oh, and I sowed the remains of a packet of last year's radishes. Really a bit early for Scotland. but I thought - why not; weather is crazy nowadays anyway...
