Well done for carrying on Andy!

I have to say though, i'd like to see the statistics on the amount of people admitted to hospital with Exhaust fume respiratory problems..

I was having a debate with someone the other day who coughed every time he came near me with a fag on the go...then got in his car and started the engine, blowing exhaust fumes right at me!!

Statistics are all well and good, but not when they're bashing one certain part of the population...especially the part that pays the highest taxes, and therefore the most into the NHS...

While we are on the subject...

Smokers 'make their children ill'

A leading hospital says up to a third of the children it treats for certain conditions are ill because their parents smoke in front of them.

I gave up 2 years ago now and found it very easy this time. I had tried once before and couldnt do it for more than a month. This time I was determined, hubby did it with me and we managed just fine. Very few of our friends here smoke and we were having dinner with some - we wanted an after dinner fag so went outside, it was pouring with rain and we both said 'what are we doing?' - also the smell of us when we went back into friends house was revolting! I did find that I smoked more once I had decided to give up, like I was cramming them all in before I stopped lol. We didnt smoke in the house cos of our son anyway so perhaps that made it easier. My parents smoke, they live about 50 yards away so see them every day, and their house and their clothes stink! When my son goes to see them I put him in old clothes cos I know they will come back smelling awful. If he stays the night there I have to wash all his blankets the next day and they havent even smoked upstairs! I think, the smell of the fags on them and in their house, made me realise how bad we smelt and has helped me stay off them.

The first time round me hubby managed to quit with the aid of this herbal tobacco. It made with rose petals and something else - smells like camel s*it - but has no nicotine in. It helps wean u off that easier. It can be bought online.

Still no fags. It is easier now, but still not easy.

I agree about the exhaust fumes. I used to have to walk along the London Road in Bath every day when I lived there. The second most polluted place in the uk. I just looked for a quote from the BBC news site about this and found
- Various surveys over the years have highlighted Bath's problems.

One, in 2004, likened 24-hours on the notorious traffic-hotspot London Road to smoking 20 cigarettes.
I did find that when I cycled or walked up that road a lot I could really feel it on my chest, much worse than when I used to chain smoke in a smoky pub.

Tried the herbal smokes route and just felt like I was smoking a bonfire!

I was sitting in a cafe the other day with 5 other blokes and all of us were ex-smokers. It was good to see that there are many of us out there.

Well done Andy. :cooldude:

First day of week five for me. I need to watch the waistline too. It's all too easy to eat instead of smoke.
