Thread about building houses for 4,000 pounds

I have always watched the television programme Grand Designs god knows why as I do not aspire to most of the buildings. However the one that was built for the Woodsman in the woods had me drooling. I have always ranted at the end of these programmes that I would sacrifice space inside the home for more private space outside. Me and hubby went on holiday to wales many years ago and stayed in a small L shaped unit. It had a double bedroom that led to a kithen cum sitting area with shower room and single bedroom. We loved it and could imagine ourselves living in something similar. I read the thread about the Scottish cottage that was built for 4,000 pounds and have never understood why something similar hasnt been thought of in the past. THe thought of having a small unit that was not attached to anyone else with enought ground to be able to grow veg would be my dream. Does anyone else have the same thoughts

Super idea - If you already own some land, or can buy some within your budget complete with planning permissions,

£4K ? I would have thought that if there was not already water, sewerage, and electrickery it would likely cost considerably more than £4K on top to supply it (either through pipes or spring / CP) - ( genny/PVsolar)

Yes you are quite right. I suppose even if each unit had a composter toilet, wind power or solar power for electric and plumbing for grey water for washing etc the cost would still soar somewhat and even if there were so many small units on the land to offset the cost it would then become a development. THere must be a way I just havent thought it through enough I can but dream of living with like minded people
