I honestly doubt that. I have both a female and a male dog. Both pee. Nothing killed.

Maybe it's the food? My dogs get "Barf" (fresh meat & veggies).

Could be lots of things, who knows, certainly not me. But I rarely express doubt on other people's ideas unless I'm very experienced on the subject. Call me old fashioned, but it wouldn't seem polite.

Huh? Sorry I didn't mean to be rude, but I have dogs too and my experiences are different than yours.

I am not good in expressing myself always in polite way, but I have no intention to offend or being rude.

the best way is to dig them out you don't need to mack big hols just push the spade in all the way abut 4-5 inches away from the weed, pull the spade to loosen the soil pull out the weed ( don't disturb the ground to much) firm the grass back into place. no weed no hole.
hope springs eternal in the human Brest.

We've got a lot of dandelion on the lawn now, but if I were to get rid of it, neither the chickens nor the rabbits would ever forgive me. They all love the stuff.

I thought that male urine was better on compost heaps because it`s easier for them to be unobtrusive. Just aim and fire rather than clamber up and squat.

I have also heard that salt poured into the middle of the plant will kill it. I have also never tried it but, perhaps, some of these 'old wives tales' are worth a go.

Wonder if the type of salt is important - whether it's the cheap sort with iodine in or whether sea salt will do. Do they still put iodine in salt?

Making coffee from the roots always seemed to me to be a lot of work to ruin a good vegetable. Just scrape the roots clean and cook like parsnips or carrots, they're good, if a little hard to get in quantity.

And I make jelly from the blossoms, try giving that to your neighbors!

Salt does work, most usefull on dandelions on the lawn, but worms don't like salt, stays in the ground, not too good. Cheap household salt will do.

Haha! Very good ;)

As to the dandelions, I now have more of those than grass. Neither the chickens nor the tortiose can keep up with them. Can anyone post or link to any recipes - all sorts of scrummy ideas have been mentioned - with clear instructions? I'm new to this "grow/brew/make" your own thingy (though have dabbled a little in the past) and need all the help I can get :)

If you go to http://www.backwoodshome.com and type "dandelion" into the search box at the top, it'll come up with dozens of articles filled with dandelion recipes, and there's a good recipe for dandelion jelly at http://www.prairielandherbs.com/dandelionjelly.htm

Thanks Ellendra! After looking at those recipes I think I'll try to grow them instead of digging them out. All I need to do now is figure out how to stop the OH attacking them with a lawn mower...

Can you ship them over here? I am desperately trying to cultivate them (in the lawn any anywhere they will grow), I am now up to 6 plants but want a few hundred, they are so good to eat.

If you've got 6 dandelions now, next year it will be 100. And your neighbours'll have a few too.

not here, you need water to get anything to grow and that includes dandelions
