Hello from Suffolk

Hi!

Having lurked for a while I've finally got round to joining I've always been interested in being self-sufficientish - a couple of years ago I built myself a biodiesel processor and ran my car on chip fat for over 20,000 miles until I moved house and had to sell it Due to changes in my circumstances I recently found myself in a position to take some major steps towards leading a greener lifestyle. I'm now renting a farm cottage in an isolated area which is off-grid as there is no mains electric, gas or sewerage, only mains water. I got it rent free for the first year in exchange for doing some work on it - there was no kitchen, heating or bathroom. And a few ceilings were missing! So I've added a couple of multifuel stoves, one with a boiler, bought and fitted a second hand kitchen, fitted a ceiling and plastered it, decorated, and bought a generator. A wind turbine,solar panels and a battery bank are on the shopping list I also inherited 14 cockerels and 2 hens The cockerels might end up in the cooking pot..... I'm a desk jockey at work so everything I do is self taught as I go along and I've no doubt I'll be using these forums on a regular basis to ask for help

Are you from Suffolk UK? If so me too...I think your soo brave to take on the project, its something I would love to do!

I'm new and already love this site! Its so exciting. I am a bit in limbo at the mo...not sure if haf of my (rented) land is going to be turned into a new house...its such a shame because there's loads of fruit trees and plants in that area (Got loads of sweet strawberrys last year!) And it would be the perfect place to keep chickens. Guess I'll have to wait and see...but I'm itching to get out there!! Rarrr!

A frog jumps into a pot of water which is gradually being heated. As the water gets warmer, the frog adjusts its body temperature and continues to adjust to the increasing water temperature until, ultimately, the frog is boiled alive.

This story can be interpreted in a number of ways - political, economic, etc, but for me I was adjusting to a decreasing quality of life until I realised what was happening and decided to get out of the boiling water and moved to my cottage Hence the boiled frog
