Another newbie from Derbyshire

Post: # 94460Post Teasal »

Hello, I live in a village 10 miles north of Buxton on a smallholding, with my husband and an assortment of animals. I do my best to grow a variety of fruit and veg, but unfortunately we are in an exposed area, and its so windy that we do have some disappointments in the garden .....and often we are behind other warmer areas in respect of our growing. And keeping chickens and goats, which both try to eat what I grow, makes the struggle even harder!!

Hello from a fellow Derbyshire inhabitant. I am further south than you though so do not struggle so much with the climate!
Every time I go to Buxton it seems to either snow or simply be freezing so I do sympathise!

Welcome Teasal. I do believe that it's Buxton which holds the English record - the town was completely cut off by snow in June one year (1960s/1970s??). Hope it's improved since then.

Thank you for the warm welcome.

Yes, MKG, you are correct about Buxton. There was actually a cricket match being played at the time of the snow!! We are a little more sheltered where we live now, from the weather. But for 20 years I lived 5 minutes from Buxton, and we were often cut off by 10ft snow drifts. Not funny when you have to try and get to work ......

On the plus side, we have some stunning scenery, and we often ride over Kinder Scout. So I consider myself very lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the country.

Well, thank you for enlightening me on the meaning of Teasal. Although I am not sure my dog would appreciate having his name changed to Dipsacus!
