Goat milk butter - what tools do I need?

You all seem to be such proficient chefs. Well here is a place to share some of that cooking knowledge. Or do you have a cooking problem? Ask away. Jams and chutneys go here too.

Goat milk butter - what tools do I need?

Post: # 95350Post contadina »

From what I've read you need a separater to make butter from goats milk; and the only ones I've seen online are very expensive. Does anyone know how to DIY a separater or where I can obtain reasonably priced ones?

Hey C!

From what I have read, goats cream comes pre-homogenised and is very resistant to separation, so I suspect a separator may be a requirement

Yep that's what I'd heard too. We've a couple of milkers on the way to keep us in milk and cheese and it would be a shame not to make butter too but I'm a little shocked at the price of them. They're maybe a little cheaper over here, but as southern Italians don't do butter, I'm having no luck with a supplier.

So come on ishers: its Scrapheap Challenge time. Any ideas on how we could make a seperator...?

your average food processor will do the job, just stick the cream in and process for half a min or so untill it separates
Opinionated but harmless

Have you tried this with goats milk possum, as I've read this works with cows but not goats milk? No harm in trying, obviously.
