A long time ago I used to work in a bakery and ant stale bread was sent of to the pigs ... IU used to bring home small wholemeal rolls for my fellas dog and his mum used to break them up a bit and bake them quite hard in the oven. He was a staffordshire bull terrier and loved them ... mind you he liked to chew on the odd tin can too.

shortcrust pastry made with meat fat/dripping of any sort and a mixture of flours/oatmeal/breadcrumbs, sunflower oil if you dont use meat - roll quite thick and cut into appropriate chunks/shapes, bake long and slow (while a casserole is in the oven perhaps)
