plants that thrive in wet land?

dh is doing my front garden ,it is soggy wet ground that floods alot from the road,we have decided to put paths for grandad and a bench or two there,and we are looking for shrubs etc that will survive,we are keeping the hedgerow for the birds that nest there and also a bee`s nest my dh found what do you think i could put there?

ps,the grey wall was erected by my neighbour,we have yet to plaster it and paint it,we sisn`t really have a say in it as its on their land

cranberries can grow in soggy ground - i think you have to make the soil alkaline first though (or is it acid... )

or i could send you a bit of moss (from sweden) we have lots of it over here. all sorts of varieties. your neighbours and family may think you a bit strange though if you ask them around to come and look at moss...

thanks might take you up on that moss,i have found gunera,alum lillies and bamboo plus more at the local garden centres,didnt think i would find much i was really surprised at the amount,the gunera actually grows wild up on the bog about 2 miles away so i must get my spade out, my neighbour has given me a few alum lillies,and i dug some wild lillies out of the roadside,thats a start, now to pay out for the bamboo and what a price they are here,probally everywhere else too i suppose,

But doesn't bamboo grow really quickly, and you can makes stuff from it. I would consider it for my garden but I prefer to stick to more native plants, speaking of which what about heathers?

Wehave just been out this morning & bought a huge load of plants today from B & Q, they are giving 25% off all until tomorrow. (Monday)

Lady's Mantle love moist soil and spread quite well too, and they look so pretty when it has rained and the drops collect on their leaves, I love them, I managed to buy 3 today in the clearance section for peanuts!

Don't forget ferns they are so hardy and look fab too!
