Rabbits

Post: # 137593Post pizzamomma »

Hi
I have been offered 7 New Zealand white rabbits aged 5 months as I only need 2 ( 3 at most) to start my meat production. Does any one want any? I live in North Essex

Let me know.

And... ????

What's the difference between eating bunnies or chickens, lamb, beef, pork etc?

I bet you wouldn't consider them as "cute" if their wild cousins got in your garden and ate all of your lettuces.

Mmm, fluffy little lambs gambolling in the fields, adorable little chicks in their yellow downy fluff or even cute little piglets.

Did you know .... when the film "Babe" came out the sales of pork plummeted in the UK, whereas the sales of pork rocketed in Ireland ?
Don't know what that says about the Irish (and absolutely nothing to do with this thread)

Sorry, just me being incredibly thick then. :geek:
In that case I will redirect the reply to anarchistinslippers the original naysayer.

its the killing of them that worries me.. being about to do it quickly and cleanly for the sake the rabbit.
will be interested to hear reports of that side of it. we hae a lot of lawn (slowly being turned into veg patch) and I would like to keep rabbits for meat.

Red, it's not much different to killing a chook - Andy says that the best way is to hold the rabbit firmly under the arm & pop the heel of one hand under the chin - a quick 'up' & the neck breaks - a few seconds later & it's done.
I believe him, but I won't be the one doing it..... that's left to him!

my german grandad used to breed rabbits the size of foxes,he would take them out of their cages, hold them, talk to them, sing to them and the next second they were dead! he twisted their necks and they were dead before them or me knew it,i used to think it was magic, they were so relaxed and i never tasted anything as wonderful!( i became a veggie at 17,i'm 47 now) but i dont think i could kill a animal, but i dont think untill you come across an injured animal thats beyond help, you'd know if you could do whats right!
