Woodland soil for growing veg
Woodland soil for growing veg
I am making a new raised bed for veg, and I had a question. I need to buy some top soil, but I was wondering if instead of buying some I could bring some woodland soil in. Will soil from the woods support growing veg, I think the dirt will be very acidic, but I was wondering if I will have other problems? Thanks for any responses!!!

It would depend on the tree types to a certain extent, as coniferouse woodland is VERY acidic, but even broadleaf soil will be so to a lesser extent. It also depends on where you are in the world, (as you refer to soil as "dirt" I am guessing USA?) and what you want to grow.
Potatoes like it slightly acidic and will crowd out many weeds that try to grow to a great extent, but there may be quite alot of dormant seeds, just waiting for that woodland clearing....albeit your artificial one!
