propagating lavender

Post: # 143064Post mumzy »

:flower:
Hi everyone,
I live in Queensland Australia but am originally from Manchester.
My question is how do you propagate lavender. I have two plants but need many more to plant a lavender hedge around my washing line.
Any help would be most appreciated.

Look for shoots with no flowers, then cut them just below a leaf joint, dip in hormone rooting powder & pop in seed compost. About half will take, in my experience.

Good Luck

I don't even use rooting powder. I simply snip of a few cutting remove some of the leaves and stick them straight in some soil in a pot. Seems to work fine.

Have done the same as Mr D Boots and they worked fine. I'm hoping I might get some self seed this year as I dropped their seed around last year after flowering was over.

My rosemary self seeded last year (first time ever!!!) and I potted up two of them which are in my cold frame.

Oh nearly forgot to say - I mix in sharp sand or grit with the potting compost when potting on or taking cuttings of plants like lavendar or rosemary.
