Radio 4
Am I the only Radio 4 fan on here, I love the comedies a lot of which do cross over to tv (Little Britain, Goodness Gracious Me, League of Gentlemen, The Mighty Boosh, Whose Line is it Anyway, Just A minute, Dead Ringers, Genius & I've Never Seen Star Wars to name a few) Plus some very good ones that wouldn't work as a crossover, as well as many interesting radio plays interviews & documentaries. I get told I'm a fuddy duddy for listening to it mainly by people who haven't listened to it.

Re: Radio 4
Fellow addict here. I keep time by it some days. Am currently enjoying the dramatisation of 'What a Carve-Up!', which is one of my favourite books. Also like many of the comedies, and The Food Programme.
They're not weeds - that's a habitat for wildlife, don't you know?

Re: Radio 4
Another fan here - I even put up with crackly old long wave for a while and cursed the cricket!
Wouldn't miss Gardeners Question Time, the Food Programme, I'm Sorry - I Haven't a Clue (RIP Humph) or the shipping forecast.
I sometimes listen to 5Live and have local French radio on in the car (where the AOR hits of the 70s and 80s have found a home) for the local news and weather but I prefer Radio4.

Re: Radio 4
I listen to the morning shows, but don't like the comedy* (though fags, mags and bags I did like) I always turn off by the time the Archers comes on though and rarely listen to the evening shows.
I listen to radio 2 in the afternoons - I like Jeremy Vine (mostly to laugh at the guests/ callers) he plays good music too, then Steve Wright while I am too busy doing other stuff to pay attention to the useless incessant drivel he plays, then in the evening it has to be Radcliffe and Maconie
*I used to work in comedy, I think I may have had my share.

Re: Radio 4
Yes have been a fan for so many years that when I first got to France I suffered from withdrawal symptoms, but am OK now,
and I am so glad that I am not the only one not to like the comedy shows, as I realy don't understand the British humour now, but then, I still listen to my old recordings of the Goons, Around the Horn, Hancocks Half Hour, Navy Lark, and a few others that many of you have never heard of, so you see I still live in the past but it was'nt a bad past.Mrs Moustoir wrote:I used to work in comedy, I think I may have had my share.
I can't do great things, so I do little things with love.
Re: Radio 4
I know all of them, I didn't enjoy the Navy Lark so much, but I think you need time to get into the characters. I was raised listening to Goons and Monty Python LPs

Re: Radio 4
I hate it as you know which probably prompted this posting. All I ever hear on it (in the mornings) is religion, classical music and cricket.

Re: Radio 4
I think that is just LW - MMM, I listen to the FM or the digital feed. I can't believe the religion the BBC get away with on a Sunday - all very christian too

Re: Radio 4
Is it different on LW to FM? There's bloody religion EVERY SINGLE MORNING!
BTW for anyone who didn't read on the other thread it's not me who puts it on but my husband! I turn it off!

Re: Radio 4
Yes, they are different - LW has cricket, the shipping forecast and a daily service when FM and digital have book of the week and other things.

Re: Radio 4
I'm a new convert to radio 4, like to put it on when my son is having a nap.
Just getting used to the schedule so I didn't take note of the time when I listened to Gardeners Question Time... When is it on??

Re: Radio 4
been a fan for many many years, and admit I 'used to' have the archers omnibus on while I (when I) did the ironing on a sunday morning - not any more though - either ironing or archers.
I do swap between that and 2 or even 3 if i cant cope with words
do like Old Harry's Game
Navy Lark, Round the Horne, Goons, now there's a blast from the past

Re: Radio 4
I love it... I'm living under the illusions that when the more 'highbrow'programmes are on that even though I'm not really listening I'll aquire all that knowledge by osmosis as it were, all that intelligence will seep in particularly when that old dodger Melvin Bragg is on he ALWAYS loses me!
Re: Radio 4
Bless radio 4!

The Now Show
Friday Night Comedy
