Hi Everyone!
We are heading off wwoofing round britain very soon and in between host farms we will be doing some camping. I've only camped once or twice and never had to cook meals whilst doing it! So I was wondering if anyone has any tips for cooking over a camp fire or any recipes?
I've managed to find some campsites that allow you to have a proper fire but sometimes it'll be a little gas stove so ideas for both would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Re: Campfire cooking!
We've got an iron tripod and dutch oven that hangs from it over an open fire. With that you can cook just about anything - soups and stews, bake bread etc in the pan and fry ups on the upturned lid. So I've got no particular recipes.
Pretty much the only thing you can't do is cook are dried pulses (well you probably could but I don't know how long they'd take
) - so I use tinned.
And don't forget some tin foil for baking spuds in the fire.
We also had a small calor gas stove - my only advice with this is cook things that are quick and that are not a disaster if not fully cooked
- we had a few mishaps when the pitifully small canister ran out half way through. Ours certainly wasn't much good for much more than heating tinned stuff - even the kettle taxed it - maybe yours is bigger and so more useful.

Cheap egg noodles are a bit of a camping staple, as are baked beans. We did a rather fancy Tuna pasta affair while camping (cooked pasta tinned tuna, a few tomatoes and some mayo sachets) but yes the trick is definitely to cook things that need little cooking... pretty sure I could live off of baked potatoes for a reasonable amount of time.

Re: Campfire cooking!
best advice i can give you: if you don't have it already, get cast iron cookware. Near impossible to burn food, and more efficient cooking
