WANTED: Peas

Post: # 152213Post grubbysoles »

Hello all,

For the second year running I have planted some peas and they have done absolutely nothing  I put some straight in the ground and I put some in little pots in the greenhouse, but neither have produced 'peadlings', as I call them. I think I just have to accept that my peas have got a bit old (they grew beautifully 3 years ago from the same packet!!)

Is it too late for me to get some going for this year? Does anyone have any going spare? I have various other seeds that I can offer in exchange (and they're not all old and useless) or squillions of fresh eggs from the chickens if you're nearby! Or I make a nice rhubarb crumble. :cooldude:

Thanks for your help.

I always soak mine in water before planting, and For the past 5 years I have planted some from the same packet of dried peas bought in the dried goods isle of a supermarket.... they are the ones E eats straight off the plant and we never have any get as far as the house.

if pea seeds are stored some where cool and dry they can last quite along time.

I think I must disagree with you on this one Red.
Peas and beans are the easiest seeds to save for yourself.
I have been using my own saved pea, broad bean and runner bean seed for so long now they are probably a unique variety
Provided you use the previous years saved seed every year, the only reason I can see for buying new is if you want a change of variety.

Just been out and looked at mine and with my Onward peas I reckon the germinate rate was 100% and my Imperial Green Longpod beans has one missing in a 30' row.
