hardwood cuttings

Post: # 161713Post old tree man »

Last year i took some hardwood cuttings of my friends elderberry bush and put them in a quiet part of the garden and totally forgot about them and this morning found 5 mini elderberry trees growing happily away :thumbright: :thumbleft:

Well done - though I think you could have just chucked a few berries on the ground and they'd have come up too. The ruddy things are everywhere here and I keep having to weed them out (thanks birds!) - but they are always coming up under trees and through all my conifers, though a number appear in the veg patch too. Just pulled up several from under a blackcurrant yesterday! I'm having the same problem with walnut trees (thanks pesky squirrel!) appearing in all my flower beds. I wouldn't mind so much if the bloomin' squirrel had bothered to EAT the walnuts.... but to steal them then forget about them, honestly

many years ago i was felling a dangerous tree near a house, and in the crutch of the tree was growing a few walnut trees that a squirrel had forgotten about and had germinated, so i took them out and planted them, i thought they had good memories, mind you i have never had a conversation with one although i have been attacked by one defending her nest.

Ha ha I thought you were talking about the walnuts until I read the very last bit - no I haven't had a conversation with a walnut fruit or tree either  but I've yelled some rude things at the squirrel!
