Anyone got any daffies flowering yet?

Post: # 14167Post Millymollymandy »

Following on from Andy's posting about the cold weather really. My daffies are 'thinking' about flowering but just got knocked back by a return of the cold weather.

My mum says she's had them flowering for ages (as per usual) but they were later than normal (sometimes hers are flowering in December!!! in Somerset).

Everything here seems behind last winter. My apricots blossomed in February last year. They haven't started yet this year!

I also notice that loads of the daffies are blind this year - both the ones that I planted new and the old ones. Grrrrrr!

You can see the proto-flowers bulging at the top of the daffs but none have ventured to peek outside their covering yet!

Ours came out today! But most are blind. I'm going to feed them a potash-rich liquid feed until they die down, and if they don't flower next year I'll replant. They do have a finite lifespan unless you keep dividing clumps, and since most gardens have all their bulbs planted at once they all tend to finish at once.
