Can anyone identify this bug please. We live in Nottingham (UK) and haven't noticed them in the area before. We now have quite a few and wondered if they were a potential problem. They seem to like hanging around the outside tomatoes.
Many thanks in anticipation
Martin

Could still be a pest though, like the Rosemary Beetles I came across last year:Annpan wrote:wow, never seen one of them before.... looks quite beautiful

Re: Bug ID
It's the nymph of the green shield bug Palomena prasina. No bother whatsoever to a gardener.
Pretty, though. It'll change shape as it gets older until it looks like ... errrm ... a shield.

Re: Bug ID
Thanks Mike it's put my mind at rest and the website is now in my favourites. I tried Googling but not knowing the bugs name made for futile searching.
