2 old cookery books

Post: # 17038Post herbwormwood »

Due to decluttering I am offering these to anyone who wants to send me enough postage stamps by Royal Mail to cover the cost of postage:

"Yorkshire Cooking" (ring bound) published by Halifax Courier , compiled abd edited by Shirley Kaye
Its fairly old and has old recipes for the bits of animal not commonly used nowadays, such as "Sheeps Head Broth".
I cannot find a date or an IBN number on it. It also has a chapter on wines, pickles and preserves.
I would say it was at least pre-1970s at a guess.

Also "Yorkshire WI Recipe Book", (ring bound) published by the Yorkshire Federation of Women's Insitutes.
Similar sort of thing. Again no date as far as I can see.
Both paperbacks.
PM me if you are interested in either. If you are intrested say which one (you can have both if you want) and I can then weigh and calculate postage costs.

Hi Ya Herbwormwood

Thanks for your kind offer I could give a good home to your cookery books as have an interest in cookery Believe it or not when I was a child my family cooked sheeps heads for the family dinner and also other strange bits of animals. It was all quite normal in those olden days although it sounds a bit strange today. I would be happy to pay your costs for post and packing

let me know

thanks rosey

Hi Rosey,
Sorry, the books have now gone.
My neighbour is from Iraq and she cooks sheeps head for special occasions. Apparently the muslim rule is if you kill an animal for food or cause it to be killed you are supposed to eat it all. Including heads. She says she hates preparing meat but her family won't go veggie.
I once arrived in her kitchen to find her dismembering a whole sheep to put in her freezer. She has traditional recipes for all the parts. No, I'm not going to ask her for them. I got out the kitchen pdq as I am a vegan.

Your wonderful cookbooks on offer

Post: # 25879Post tinafromoz »

Hi, I just found this site when doing a Google search for an old recipe book "Yorkshire W.I. Recipe Book". I grew up in Redcar, Yorkshire and remember my Aunty Yvonne making this wonderful sticky ginger bread. If the book is still available I would love it.

Thank you so much,

Huggs Tina from Oz
