Cheapest Basics & Special Offers.

To make things we need some basics, and I try and get these as cheap as possible. If anyone on here has tips for cheap items it would be appreciated.

I'll start off with a few of my own.


Sugar White 1kg 65p at Lidl
Malt Vinegar 500ml 13p T~esco
Pepper T-esco 18p
Salt T-esco 28p 1 kilo
Curry Sauce in Glass Jars A'sda 7p ( Cheapest Jar and lid if you ever run out) Dog will eat the sauce.

Brilliant if you live somewhere with a choice of shops, not so good if you are in the country, it is cheaper to pay village shop prices than to drive to large supermarkets, also, sometimes I think you get what you pay for! pbf.

can't beat the asda sauce for price but sainsburys do a very good curry sauce for 9p. Surely the jar cost more to manufacture?

Glass jars are nearly always around on freecycle..as long as you are able to collect..then they are free.

Even though I live in a large town with all the major supermarkets, I tend to only go to the local Co-op because I can walk there. If I have to drive then it adds a fortune to the cost of the shopping. I also work on the principle that if I can't carry it home then I don't need it.

I do keep an eye on the yellow stickered items or the bargain bins though, the Co-op often has bargain meat early in the morning.

Co-Op do some fab deals. If you have your Sunday meal as a dinner (i.e at about 7pm instead of lunch) you can often find all your requirements reduced at around 4pm in my Co-Op..............I got a whole load for dinner (not including the chicken - ours never has free-range, and neither does the butcher 'no call for it', so I have to go to T5sco for that), plus reduced punnets of strawberries and Scottish raspberries for £2.00 all in the other week. I find the rest of their stuff FAR too expensive, though. It probably makes a difference when you have kids to feed who will happily chomp through half your fruit bowl in a morning, I simply can't afford £2.00 for four bloody apples.

T%SCO value digestive biscuits - 31p a pack. Great for cheesecake bases. I think the T$esco 'normal' ones are around 60p, and there really is no difference at all, apart from the packaging. McVities are pushing £1.00, I think.
