Can anyone give me some other way to store my massive chilli crop as I have already dried lots.............next year I'm not planting six seeds

Freeze them indivdually on a tray then bag 'em up......... simples!!!

I've got a fair few plants on the go - some have done better than others and the pretty in purple ones are dripping with fruit. None ripe yet though. I can't wait to use some in my cooking.

They are Jalapeno hot peppers from Mr Fothergills Seeds and this will be the third year I have used the same pk of seeds..........maybe they improve with age,I have had about thirty large chillis so far and the plants are covered with lots more.
This part of Scotland is a great area for growing as we have the warm current hitting us and we seem to have a micro-climate all of our own...........that said it was -15 at some points last winter but very dry hence the drought order hanging over us.....Jessica

Forgot to say they are the greenhouse plants the other six I put outside are just starting to crop.

Are you going to overwinter your plants? I know ours lasted into a second year and did even better the next year.

Shirley I have never tried to overwinter them should I just keep in the greenhouse and bring the outdoor ones in also or do you cover with a closh and leave the outdoor ones in the ground.Jessica

ours were indoor ones and we just kept them indoors... didn't really do anything to them and perhaps it was just luck that meant we had some chillies on the plants the year after. Will be looking to do the same this year and will have to check up on what to do as ours are now in an unheated conservatory that gets very cold in the winter.

We left ours on a north facing windowsill (on the stairs so it was fairly warm) and watered it occasionally - seemed quite happy.

we have one scotch bonnet type that has been growing for 6+ years non-stop. It has reached shrub size and is unkillable producing a near constant stream of HOT red peppers. That said, were would rarely drop below 0 Celsius here

Hmmm thinking about it my dad always had perennial birds eye chillies - but you don't get frosts in Fiji.

I tried to overwinter one after reading about it on Ish but it died. However we're still eating the dried ones from 2 years ago (or was it last year, I can't remember)!

Mine over winter fine in the conservatory or on the kitchen windowsill. Must be frost free and have enough light. They are prone to aphid infestation indoors.

My lovely OH made hot pepper sauce last year that was popular. I'm sure he will give you the recipe if he can find it!
