Chilli Vodka for Christmas

Post: # 208091Post AngeB »

Hi Guys

Now my chillis are going red I thought I'd start on some chilli vodka for christmas gifts. Has anyone else made this? I was wondering whether it's better to stick fresh chillies in or to dry them first and then put them in :dontknow:

Any ideas?

Ange

Is it good? Do you drink it dry or sweetened?

I tried this with fresh. I filled a vodka bottle with chillis, refilled it with vodka and then put it up ontop of the fridge freezer and left it. When I say left it I really mean forgot about it. 3 months later I remembered it was there and filted out the chillies. It now sits in my drinks cabinet and only comes out when someone wants to prove how manly they are. It is truley powerfull stuff. In hindsight I would try after about 2 weeks and that would do the trick without taking off the roof of everyones mouth.

What kind of chillis did you use? I have cayenne so they're fairly mild.

Nigella Lawson does a spiced one with dried chilli, cardomom, coriander seeds etc. so I might try both that and your one and see how it goes!

Mmh, I bet cinnamon vodka's nice

Great site BA, I bookmarked that one.

Particularly liked the idea of chilli sherry for cooking - with leftover mush to cook with as well.

It was a mixed bag of chillis that I got from the greengrocer for 50p. Nothing as strong as a scotch bonnet in there. but stuff that would make you sweat, sorry can't be more specific.
