Hello!
We have found this huge fungus on the grass between a beech tree and an oak tree at work - just wondering if it was edible? It's about 40cm in diameter and white underneath. It doesn't stain when pressed and smells wonderful, but obviously I won't eat it until someone can tell me if it's OK? I was hoping it was a Hen of the Woods, but without breaking bits off (I didn't want to damage it) I can't see if it's got obvious spores.
Many thanks
Janine

It looks pretty promising, you lucky things! Break a bit off, do some some ID checks and a spore print, it will cope with a bit of damage! Should have white spores.

Hi Janine - why not pop into the totros bit and tell us about yourself? In the meantime - Hi there and welcome!
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

Hello all
Thank you for your replies, I've since had a poke around said fungus and it is very fibrous and now staining yellow, so I've managed to put myself off taking some home to cook...
Just had a quick peek round the site, looks brill - I will be back, if only to find recipes for the carrots, beetroot and potatoes we're eating every day at the minute from the garden!
