I really like some of the things on this website... does anyone know where you can get hold of old reels like these so we could make our own??

Try your local electricity supply company Shirl!

(Did I ever tell you that I had an Auntie Shirl?)

From what I remember, the electricity companies re-use them, or they did. I have seen them occasionally at our tip.

Wow Shirl! These are heaps cool!

I have collected a few of these for my goats from the local tip. They eat off them and play "I'm the king of the castle" on them.

The last thing I need right now is another project... but I just LOVE that tree table! Gonna have to have a go at that sometime, me thinks... Don't have any really big reels though.. :? Just the smaller ones.

Also have two of the reel 'tops' that I painted up for .... something... They are just sitting on my verandah doing nothing. I was thinking some sort of whirley swing, but they had heaps better ideas!

Those are gorgeous. When I saw the title I thought "Oh God, someone has probably put a big reel on end, painted it red and called it a coffee table" but a lot of those pieces you'd never guess came from reels, they just look like beautiful (if slightly quirky) wooden furniture.

It was a long time since I have seen them, she lived with Vi, who I think may have been her mother - consequently they were collectively known as Vi and Shirl. (just a bit of family history there....... )
