Alien tomatoes

Post: # 280623Post Odsox »

OK, I've seen quite a few oddities concerning fruit and veg, mainly odd and rude shaped ones, but this is the first time I've seen this.
It doesn't look real in the photos, but I have green tomato fruits with flowers erupting from the surface.
Not just one, but a whole truss, and although I didn't spot one earlier I think they develop into another Siamese twin like fruit.
Well it takes a weirdo to grow weirdo tomatoes.

(**Surreptitiously checks date**)

No, it's not April. How very odd.

 ..... and I should have pointed out that those photos are straight off the camera, no photoshopping involved (well apart from reducing the size of the images)

EDIT: also I promise I haven't glued a flower on top of those tomatoes.

We've had the occasional double tomato, but I've never seen the flowers - I just assumed it was two tomatoes forming too close together. It's a bit gross

I've also had the occasional double tomato as well, and I've seen the occasional double flower and assumed that one led to the other. I have no idea if the double tomato in the photo is the result of the oddity or not, but I will keep a close eye on the weird fruit flower ones and report back. I'm sure thinking about it, nothing will come of them, but you never know.

That's the sort of thing you might expect from GM tomato seed.

I suppose the idea of making two tomato sandwiches at once is quite appealing.

Any idea what variety that is? Just wondering whether a particular one is more susceptible to this kind of strange behaviour...

Yes Ina, that plant is a Rose de Berne.
This is the first year I've grown it, so I have no idea what to expect, but I certainly didn't expect that.
