It's just about time to start making my next batch of cider and while I have enough apples from our trees to make at least five gallons, more sharps and crabs would enable me to experiment with the flavours and make a bit more. Sweets would make it stronger - although the last lot was pretty strong at 10.5-11%!
So does anyone up in these parts (Aberdeenshire) have any apple trees that will be ripe for picking in a week or two? Or know anyone that does?
I can swap tatties, onions, jars of jam or possibly some other veg for apples. Unfortunately we're a bit low on the home brew front at the moment, but if you don't mind waiting I can give you some bottles of cider or stout in a couple of months.
Wanted: apples
It's a shame we live too far apart. Our hedgerow around the majority of our boundry has wild apple trees growing about every fifth tree and our wood has a fair few in it too. They're absolutely laden this year. Apart from the usual apple jelly and marmalade I'm going to have a go at making some cider as we've been testing the apples and we do have a few sweet ones as well as tart ones. In fact all the trees this year are absolutely laden with fruit ie acorn, hawthorn, elderberries etc
