what to do

Do you keep livestock? Having any problems? Want to talk about it, whether it be sheep, goats, chickens, pigs, bees or llamas, here is your place to discuss.

what to do

Post: # 35792Post maggie144 »

Hi Everyone

Sorry but i need some advise again, i have quite a lot of ducks (Muscovies) and am contemplating culling them, but am not sure how to go about it or whether i am brave enough to do it

Can anyone tell me is it easy to do, or should i find someone locally to help me out.

usually i wouldn't even entertain the idea of culling but i have too many drakes and they are starting to pick on each other so i think the time has come to cull a few and make way for the younger ones.

thankyou in advance

If it was me, I'd get someone to come and show me how it's done, then I'd do it myself. I believe it's not particularly difficult when you know how, but if you try to make it up as you go along you'll traumatise yourself and your ducks and generally have an unpleasant time.

Good luck with it.

I agree totally with Chickpea - it might be worth getting a despatcher too if you've got a few to do.

like chick pea siad it's isn't mean tto be that hard once you know how but it's having someone to show you. Its one reason why we haven't eaten any of our birds yet.

I have been told of a reliable method using a broom handle to break the neck under but I'm nervous of trying anything incase it goes wrong. My OH suggested a gun but I hate the idea of havign one around and it wouldn't be any good untill I could shoot accuratly anyway.

It's a shame your not closer, my daughter loves ducks and we have been looking at getting some but haven't found any nearby
