seed favour

Post: # 40612Post paradox »

I know this a bit cheeky but im hoping some of you may be able to help me out.
As you may know im due to move into a new house soon and im very much looking forward to growing my own veg.
I was wondering if anyone had some surplus seeds that they may be willing to give me if i sent a stamped addressed envelope.
Im sorry i dont have any seeds to swap at the moment apart from some pumkin seeds and some chive seeds hopefully soon.
But if anyone can help me out then im sure there will be a way i can return the favour in future.

Do you have anything in particular in mind?

I won't be sorting my seed for next year for another month or so, but sometimes have small surpluses of older seeds that need to be used up (two seasons old).

I think there may be peas and onions at the very least, possibly some fennel too as they were quite prolific this year.

All my saved seed is from plants grown organically here(if not certified as such!), while the vast majority of surplus bought/swapped seed is also organic.

Let me know now if there's anything you really, really want and then PM me in a mid-December to remind me!

Thanks very much stonehead.

We should be moving very soon (if all goes well) so once we have me and my wife are going to sit down and plan the veg garden and decide on a list of what we want to grow so i will chuck you a pm at a later date.

Once again many thanks

I've got some peppers, pumpkins and butternut squash seeds if you want them.

Might have a few more left over soon as well.

Marrow Seeds

Post: # 49794Post mattachinelee »

Paradox, I dried and saved the marrow seeds from a hefty allotment grown marrow a friend gave me last year. There are loads of them and my garden won't support that much, besides which, there is only so much you can do with a marrow! I don't know what proportion is likely to grow, I've stored them in an envelope on a shelf in the kitchen, so they are dry and I made sure they weren;t stuck together to start with. I used the marrow itself to make marrow rum, which I transferred into a demi john just before Christmas - and got plastered just from the fumes at that point! Let me know where to post the seeds to and good luck with your new home.

:drunken: Sure, please try and enjoy!
Take one prize winning marrow (big as you can get anyway)
Slice top off and scrape out all seeds and stringy bits. (prob need long handled spoon to reach the end)
Pack the marrow with demerara sugar to the brim.
Add juice from an orange and a little yeast.
Pop the top back on and tape it.
Put in a warm dark place (airing cupboard) in a bowl.
Leave to fester for several weeks
When liquid leaks from the bottom into the bowl its ready to move
Warning this bits sticky!
Get as much of the juicy gunk out of the marrow and into a demi john as possible!
Add a little lukewarm water (depending on size of marrow maybe upto a pint) then add another dose of yeast.
Put in dark warm place with airlock on the demi john and leave to finish.
Within a year you should have a rich dark golden alcoholic brew of legendary proportions. My NIrish partner says the smell reminds her of poteen!

PS I've heard it can be tried with corgettes too!

Wow such kind offers

I am still in need of some seeds but ive been buying cheap packets of seeds from netto and aldi.

So if no one else is in need of them i will take them.
If i dont get chance or room to grow them this year then im sure they will have pride of place in my seed bank.
