The OH's Land Rover Discovery 300 TDi is finally going, so if anyone's interested in the old girl (the car, not the missus!) let me know.
95N Discovery 300 TDi
143,000 miles
Five-door
Five seats
Manual gearbox
Black
Towbar, bullbar and driving lights (the latter having seen better days)
Just passed its MoT, so comes with 12 months MoT and three months tax
It has quite a lot of history, especially with us but some goes back years.
We've spent a lot of dosh on it, so while it is a 12-year-old car with rust patches here and there it's very good mechanically, the chassis is sound (waxoyled), there are no structural or safety problems, and we've had a fair amount of rust professionally cut out and resprayed.
Work done in the past 12 months includes
Offside front sill welded
Offside front swivel hub bearing replaced
Rear wheel bearings lubricated and adjusted
Nearside front track rod end replaced
Front wheel alignment adjusted
Front hub bearings stripped, lubricated and adjusted
Diesel spill pipes replaced
New fuel filler cap
New rivets in the plastic strips on the rear tailgate step
New V-belt tensioner unit
New V-belt
New steering lock assembly
New rear brake discs and pads
Rust cut out of door bottoms and tail gate, then resprayed
New tailgate hinges
New spare wheel carrier
New driver's door handle mechanism
New rear mudflaps (£50 a pair!!!)
New front spring
Body mounts welded
All the electrics work save the very erratic radio, which is currently missing its aerial. Rear demister is good, rear wiper is good (new motor in 2005), electric windows work, headlight washers work (new parts in 2005), heater fan works, etc etc.
Front tyres are relatively new and have a lot of tread, rears are older but still legal.
Exhaust, rear brake calipers, anti-roll bar links/bushes, rear door latch and battery are all less than three years old.
Side steps, new shock absorber bushes and new brake pipes fitted three years ago (when we bought it).
Gearbox was stripped down and overhauled in 2002, with a new clutch fitted at the same time. It's done about 60,000 miles since then.
The Disco is about 3,000 miles off its next service (6,000 miles - fluids and filters), the boot floor will need replacing in the next 18 months or so (rusty now but not yet a major issue), there's the usual rust pocks above the windscreen and the timing belt will need doing sooner rather than later. The recommended interval is 72,000 miles/six years - I prefer 50-60,000 miles and five years. The Disco had new belts at 58,000 and 100,000 miles but we didn't file the receipt for the one we had done - I'm trying to find it!
We're looking for about £1750 or so.
