Brighton gets football eyesore

Post: # 66245Post Martin »

oh lordy - after the flood news on the lunchtime news, I watched the local news too - Brighton football club is to be allowed to build a vast 50 million quid stadium ON THE DOWNS.................and there was the unedifying sight of loads of supporters celebrating....
Here we are hurtling towards the ecological abyss, and people find a palace to professional "sport" necessary, and are willing to despoil land earmarked never to be built on..........I despair! - one supporter claimed that Brighton "couldn't be a city without a big arena...."

Oh dear. The battle against this was going on when I lived there several years ago - I can´t believe its getting the go ahead.

What happened to all the green councillors in Brighton, and the lefties for that matter.......

Terrible news.

It'd be a pretty odd (not to say plain horrible) city that didn't cater for cultural needs beyond what I understand and appreciate. In fact I think I'd want my money back if a place only provided for what I was interested in.

The news report that I heard said that this was not the first time that the plan had been passed, only to be turned down on appeal, and there are appeals still to be heard.

Besides, I reckon that football gives the riff-raff something to do and keeps them occupied in a place where I am not <cough - did I say that out loud?? -/cough>.

 Muddy!

Maybe it can double up as a swimming pool in times of flood.

if I remember right, they had a perfectly good football ground near the centre of the town, but flogged it for development (supermarket?) - then borrowed other club grounds, NOW get to despoil the south downs.........all to make even more money........
Brighton - the pink city.........hmmm, a stadium where men can watch other men playing with each other..........
They already have a dog track for the 'oi polloi

At the end of it all, Britain will be a big concrete block. Everyone will live in square box houses. there'll be no forests to visit, no field to admire. it wll be housing everywhere. We'll be importing food from elsewhere.

I'd like to earmark the bit of land with Stonehenge on it for myself. i reckon that if i stuct a tarpaulin over the top and a tipi on the side i could live there quite happily and it would still look pretty...

Maybe i should go and update the Ish 2027 thread...
