Compost caddy on a london bus!!

i have never in my life not composted, having been blessed with fairly eco living parents and the ability to do it in the front 'garden' of our last rented property, but with the arrival of the bundle that is baby Maria in august, we will be renting a 2 bed, 2nd floor flat with no communal gardens to speak of (not that i think other tenants would appreciate a dalek on a manicured lawn if there was one anyway!). WHAT TO DO ABOUT THE COMPOST?!?! we've got an allotment a fair walk and bus ride away, so having slightly comical visions of myself having to carry a compost caddy onto the bus and getting more weird looks then usual (although perhaps a double seat to myself owing to pong) and then at some stage, a compost caddy and a baby and cumbersome pram... all on a weekly basis! what do other people without gardens do? the idea of a wormery indoors is kind of gross and impractical (and ive heard they're not that great anyway). any other methods? help!!

Bokashi bin! They really don't pong (if you decided to carry one on a London bus, which I think is a great idea ) and if you didn't want to carry it to the allotment then you can easily bury the contents in a small hole in the ground. I'm currently trying to persuade everyone I know to use Bokashi! It's ace because you can add lots of things that you can't normally compost - fish, bones, bread, loads of onion peelings, cooked food etc. Plus you get super fertiliser liquid stuff which you tap off.

When I read the title of this thread I thought that Greenie Dave Cameron was forcing Boris to make some changes.....I think it would be a fine idea to have compost bins in public (might solve your problem too).
