Re: heathens/ pagans of Ish, unite :D

Lmao! My nephew (nearly six) is completely convinced that I fly my broom! I've told him otherwise so many times, but no way will he accept its for anything other than flying! He also thinks that if he throws water on me I'll melt...though if he gets water on him he turns into a mermaid...yeah, thats...

Re: liqueur, cordial, creme de **** what is the difference

I'm no expert Berti, but as far as I know red is correct about cordials. Basically a sugary, often fruit-based, syrup to which one adds water to make it drinkable. A liqueur is a very sweet, usually spirit-based, alcoholic drink which is, again, often flavoured with fruit (eg cherry liqueur) and som...

Re: What I thought of Lush

I really don't like Lush at all. I've only ever been in there once, at the insistence of a friend I was with at the time. The smell was horrendously overpowering-though to be fair, from what I could tell, the scents they use are all plant based. Its just so much of it in one place is too much for me...

I love the look of that forum hedgewitch! I've bookmarked and will probably be registering later! Why haven't you mentioned it sooner? Rod, a better question would be, 'what can't we do with magick?' Though I'd guess that we have a similar range of possibilities as you do with Zen. But yea...

Re: Lughnasadh/Lammas celebrations?

Sorry marshlander, I was a little snippy when I left that last message, I've been feeling bad about it all day. With regard to Lugh though, he's a bit of a confusing deity. Actually, Irish deities generally are confusing. Although he did have solar attributes, he wasn't exactly a sun-god per se. For...

Re: Lughnasadh/Lammas celebrations?

For Christians, Lammas Hlaf-masse/Loaf Mass was indeed the festival of first fruits based on Deuteronomy chapter 26. I'm afraid I don't know the Bible that well, but I can't imagine that a festival with an Anglo-Saxon name and a date based on British agricultural cycles came from a Hebrew source. T...

Re: Lughnasadh/Lammas celebrations?

Yes, Lammas was the name the Anglo-Saxons gave to the first harvest festival of the year, meaning Loaf Mass, and it was adopted by the Church. It probably hasn't been changed too much, just a different emphasis on who the thanks are given to. I can't remember exactly what Lughnasadh means (its prono...

Re: Lughnasadh/Lammas celebrations?

I don't think I've ever seen corn dollies for sale anywhere Mrs F, your best bet would probably be at a Lammas fair, if they have them near you. Of course, that would be too late for a Lammas gift... Maybe you could bake a loaf shaped like one instead? Or alternatively, a phallic loaf would be just ...

Re: heathens/ pagans of Ish, unite :D

This is often a tricky question to answer...I'm a Witch. If you want to get precise, I'm an eclectic Alexandrian hedgewitch with leanings toward Druidry, Heathenism and Wizardry  Though I usually just say Witch and leave it at that  It might seem like a bit of a contradiction, I should...

I've not got a clue what I'm doing yet, its kinda snuck up on me this year! But it will probably involve a fair bit of baking!

Re: People's reactions to what we see as "normal"

I have to say, I have a similar attitude with my nieces and nephews. Generally speaking, these days kids are just too damned lazy and when they can be bothered to go outside they're more concerned with drinking white cider and causing trouble! Though running from the scary p*ssed off dreadlocked guy...

Re: Dr Who!

I can't believe I missed this post! Though as the biggest geek ever I have to point out that its Doctor Who, not Dr Who, and the character is named the Doctor. I'd been dreading Donna, I even threatened not to watch, but she turned out to be pretty decent, her character developed quite wonderfully.....

Re: People's reactions to what we see as "normal"

I just phoned my mum so ask what time she's dropping off my brothers and sister. she told me and i said, "oh good, that means I can still get to asda this evening". she asked me how far asda is. I told her it's 1.5 miles... she cut me off mid sentence (I was going to say "each way&qu...

Re: Pumpkins

I was wondering about this too, as I'd heard that you should restrict each plant to a couple of pumpkins max, but I just can't bring myself to butcher them! Pumpkin pie was magical last year, so I'll make a batch of filling and freeze it if we have more than the one precious pumpkin required for 31...
