Re: Blackthorn Flower Wine

There was nothing else added, only water, yeast and orange and lemon juice. I couln't find a recipe either, although i am positive my nan used to make it, but she says she only made mayflower (although she is 96, and may not be able to remember!!). The taste wasn't too bad, if you really like gluggi...

Re: Blackthorn Flower Wine

Well, have tried the blackthorn flower wine now , and can safely say it is DISGUSTING! It also made our tongues go numb! When i say it is disgusting i found it to be so. My friend who tried it too quite liked the taste. very like honey. wont be doing it next year though.

Re: Positive stories please

Thanks for all your good wishes. Florence has been home since saturday after having her operation on Friday. The vets emptied her stomach and pulled out a bucket of acorns and rhodo leaves. As well as the tube we were using to drench her!! She had only escaped for 30 mins! She seems to be getting bet...

Positive stories please

Does anyone have any good news stories on goats/sheep surviving rhododendron poisoning. One of my nannies escaped in to next doors garden and feasted on them. She is now in hospital after having her stomach opened to empty it of all nasties. (she was only having a drench originally, but bit the tube...

Maiden Milker

One of our yearling goats has started to produce milk! She has never been mated, and recently developed an udder (shortly after one of our other goats kidded). It has been getting bigger and I gave it a quick squirt today and milk came out! I know goats can do this, but is it ok to milk her or shoul...

Re: Blackthorn Flower Wine

Well have eaten enough pips etc over time and am still here, so will give it a go! I dont intend on drinking 500 gallons in one hit, so I might survive it! Of course the reason why it's not traditionally made is that it might taste absolutely revolting! Have enough oak leaf from last year to wash it...

Re: Blackthorn Flower Wine

We have enough around here for sloes aswell!
I suppose some of the leaves did probably get in with the flowers, so not too sure if I will drink it now!
Not too sure on how much cyanide is in them, or indeed how much to kill you, so might not find out!

Blackthorn Flower Wine

Does anyone know if you can make wine from blackthorn blossom? I have some bubbling away at the moment, but have been told it may be poisonous! I'm sure my nan used to make it, but when i asked her she said it was may blossom she used and not blackthorn. We do make may blossom too, and this is the f...

Re: help milking a really short cow

Dont know how good you are at diy, but couldn't you make something that would fit all? We made our goat milking stand from wood, but you could always reinforce the platform with something. Maybe some sort of adjustable head lock too. (Or bailer twine works to do it up too!) http://www.cyrilssoapshed...

Re: Ideas please!!

I had a lovely bath with clary sage and lavender essential oils. Was in labour within 2 hours! The reason they tell you not to use essential oils during pregnancy is that most of them bring on contractions. But do some basic research first to make sure safe for babe. Good luck with it all!

Poorly chicken

First thing this morning i noticed one of my ex bats standing by their water drinker, looking very forlorn and sad. she was very droopy, all fluffed up and not interested in anything. She has stayed the same all day. Her comb has gone all pale and floppy, and she wont feed. We have only had her 3 mo...

Re: selling handmade soap

Hi You will need to have your products safety tested before you can sell, but this normally involves telling the company what you use, rather than sending off the soaps for testing. There is also the labelling laws. You have to have ingrediants in INCI (latin), address contact details and batch no's...
