The time has come...

Post: # 136918Post SarahJane »

Alot of us do it at this time of year, and I am no exception. I need to lose weight and get in shape. I have been off work for weeks now and that hasnt helped , along with all the festive food etc.

So would anyone like to join me in an "online diet"? lol. Maybe swap a few recipes and give each other a bit of support (or a kick up the bum) when needed? :flower:

Yep. Could we have a name, such as "The Ten-Pound Club" or something nice, and ishly silly?

Each to her/his own plan, but help each other keep going?

Sleekly yours....

I have zero will power though so bum kicking will be needed!

My whole life is in a state of flux tho at the moment so its going to be difficult to get organised. Will do my best tho. :salute:

Great! I am glad I am not alone in wanting/needing to diet.

I think we should all keep to whichever plan suits us best but be able to share good recipes, have a moan if we are having a bad day, or simply share ideas etc.

We definately need a name! lol, That sounds like fun!

I have just been shopping to get a few necessaties in and have got rid of all the left over goodies from xmas, and there seemed to be quite a bit! I am going to take the boxes of chocs I have in to work where they will soon be demolished.

I am just looking online for a nice tasty low cal recipe to start me off in the right direction. :flower:

Hey Sarah Jane - as you know I definitely need to lose an ounce or million!

However I'm not going to diet with you - I'm certain the size I am now is largely due to dieting. I'm really good at it for a few weeks and lose weight quite well, but every time I've reverted to my usual eating pattern I've put back on more weight than I've lost. Your classic yo-yo dieter.

Over the last 3-4 years I've stopped dieting, and started to change my eating habits on a more permanent basis - my weight has gone down slightly, but largely has remained stable. Last year was a bit of a bust though - with mother moving in our diet has changed to accommodate her.

So, I will support you by getting back to my own, healthier style of eating - swap recipes etc.

My main aim is to get more exercise - when I was on my own for a few months my weight dropped because I only ate what I wanted, when I wanted and I got loads more exercise because I had to do everything for myself, and didn't have anyone to distract me. I'm not blaming anyone (not even me) - it just happens before I've realised, then easier to continue.

So, you're right, time for action.

To me, it's not about going on a diet or a new plan. It's simply using good sense, using it! Up and using it.

Moral support, and all that.

And about our name...

Or shall we just use Smilies?

I forgot (as usual). My other big thing is learning to eat until I'm full - I'm definitely one of those who's been indoctrinated with a "clean your plate" mentality.

I think I find this harder than anything else. I love good food and sometimes find it difficult to know when to stop.

I bought myself a smaller plate, soup plate and cereal bowl so I could start with smaller portions, but they seem to have been used for other things! I'll retrieve them forthwith!!!!

I don't do diets but was in the middle of a 'lifestyle change' until my lifestyle nurse (dietician) found a better job and left *sniff*

I have a disk with lots of helpful documents if anyone would like me to copy and paste them, I sure she wouldn't mind if it's to help others!

First thing she said to me when I went "there is no diet, the word diet should be blipped off the face of the earth, what you need to do is change your lifestyle, diets DO NOT work they merely reduce what you eat and as soon as you stop them the weight and more goes back on"

She had lots of success stories including one bloke who thought he was leading a healthy lifestyle but was having a full English breakfast several times a week and with just cutting that out, replacing it with something better and doing a little more exercise he lost around 12 stone in 2 years!!

He even wrote an article about it all and named her specifically as being the reason he managed to lose all his weight, she was a really great lady shame she had a better offer really (not that I begrudge her one but she deserved it) but I'm kinda back on my own trying to follow the docs on the CD now so I'm in!

Edit - The best thing about her was that she wasn't a stick who had never been as much as 1lb overweight in her life, she was actually doing this lifestyle change along with her patients... can't beat that when she knows what the pitfalls are and doesn't expect you to live on a lettuce leaf because 'she does' :D

Hi
Count me in. My problem is work. Somehow I seem to have come to equate sitting at my desk with eating. Plus there are always goodies at work. We've still got loads of leftovers from the cakes and sweets that were brought in over Christmas. People have also been bringing in their leftovers from home. I just can't resist them. It's much easier at home as I just don't keep them in. Also, at home, I don't feel like I need to eat all the time. I think it must be boredom or lack of exercise at work, just sat in front of a computer all day.

I am walking or cycling to work and back every day. It's just over 2 miles each way so that is helping to stop me ballooning to the size of a full-grown elephant. At the moment I am just about a baby one

There was an Ish Eating Club a while back - Trim Taut and Terrific if i remember rightly!
It was quite successful.

I'll join!(she says, sat here with a big iece of homemade bread pudding...).

Work is probably my downfall, i eat breakfast at about 12ish, and then snak at about 4, and then have my sandwiches at 6.

I don't generally have a large dinner, or actually, any dinner at all.
I need motivation to exercise. Might start taking the dog out for half an hour or so to start off with.

Mmmmm, "The Ish Health and Beauty Meeting"? I want something new, full of spring, fun, cheerful, very ish, and humorous.

Couldn't sleep, so here I am looking at Ish, and sending you all victory thoughts.

I think that's a good name - The Ish Health Club.

If its health and beauty, then people might start asking questions about makeup...

The Ish Health Club sounds good, but it would be a nice to have a made-up adjective in there, too. You're right about the make-up.

The end of the sunrise is especially beautiful this morning. I'm on a different schedule, and it's pretty, looking out of the window now.
