Hello from West Yorkshire

Post: # 183360Post energysaving »

:flower: Hello.

Just starting out on the whole growing my own thing - successful crop of cherry tomaties last year doesn't really count. Not a lot of ground, so I'm going to have to be inventive!

Following in the footsteps of Tom, I removed all the gravel and paving from the front garden last autumn, and will be starting out with peas and beans (can you grow them horizontally? - very windy round here), and lots of things in pots.

Front garden south facing, so am adopting a "lowering the tone" attitude. There'll be a car up on bricks in no time.

Partner of the "It's me or the chickens" viewpoint at the moment, so no livestock (maybe I could try milking the cats?)

Hi there and welcome
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

welcome :flower:

you can get pea varieties that don't grow so tall.. onward and early onward for example, might be better in a windy location.

Welcome to ISH :flower:

Cherry toms DO count!!! Peas and beans (legumes) are a good choice, as the land that has been under the slabs/gravel might be a bit 'sour'. A good dig over will help and the legumes will fix their own nitrogen. Just remember to leave their roots in the ground so that the next crop will gain the benefit.
